Day 11

The crane pieces arrived today ...

The site was super busy - there were little work areas everywhere

The crane was put together and then put to use immediately.
A side question ... Do you see the size of those wheels? I cannot imagine what's coming to the site.

Also large are the drills over there on the right side of the picture - the swirly rusty pieces of metal.

Day 10

The rest of the parking spaces were removed today

The beginning of the crane arrived today

The rest of the railing and planters were taken down

Day 9

Today there was a lot of in and out by dump trucks picking up huge pieces of concrete and other debris from the site.

The excavator took down part of the ironwork that was there in the parking lot and the men took down the concrete holding wall with the trees and bushes. The plants/trees were taken away in a truck with their roots protected - I'm assuming they'll be replanted.

Also, there was more testing in the newly cleared area and one area got roped off  ... not sure what happens next.

Day 8

This morning we saw some new players on the field. Sadly, we didn't get to see what happened today - we were out cruising around up north in the forest preserve :) Hubs had the day off and we took the boy on a bike ride through nature.

Day 7

The testing seemed to be completed today and large pieces of concrete were smashed with the claw of the excavator and put into the dump-truck. It was cool and it was loud.

Day 6

The site is proving to be educational in more way than one ... the fences are in alphabetical order

Day 5

They dug holes, tested the soil, filled the holes, dug more holes.

Testing the soil ... we think for environmental reasons and/or to understand composition of the soil

Day 4

This was the last of the work today - look how tiny the construction man looks.

Yes. This is a porta-potty. I actually used the words, "portable potty" this morning just before 7am when describing what this was to my son who saw 5 of them on a truck and one being unloaded. Of course, he wanted all five of them to be left (who wouldn't?) and of course he wanted a green one to stay.
But alas, the waste management gentleman left the construction team a white one. The only white one. The only one my son didn't want to stay.
Then, once it sank in that it was a potty, he wanted the contruction men to go to the potty. I told him they may not have to go. To which he responded, "MM?!??!?" We're potty training. Apparently also giving instruction on bribery.

Day 3

This arrived at 7am Friday morning. I know this is an excavator because I read "Roadwork" to my son at least once a day.
It's a great book if you've got a little one who loves construction.
Or if you're in need of a reference book if you're having a building go up next door to you.

Work began immediately after.
To quote my husband, "Well, yeah, they're paying for that CAT. It's not just going to sit there."
To quote our son, "Whoa Mom! Whoa Daddy! Roadwork! Roadwork! Roadwork!"
